These paintings are an explorations of the hero journey, which ultimately is the journey of an individual against the obstacles that prevent him and his community from liberation. Most often the obstacles to the hero are self-induced, which means that the nemesis of the hero is actually him/her own self and not really an outside force. These paintings explore the in-between space of the hero, comprehending what he is and what he is not. It is the coming to consciousness of the choices before a human being and the course of action that must be undertaken to achieve the heroic – a course of action that the hero knows inevitably places him in the position of sacrifice.
